Why you should order it #

Buy a Sun Joe electric lawn dethatcher and scarifier. It’s electric so you don’t have to mess with gas and maintenance plus it folds down easily in your garage. Thatch is good for the grass as long as it doesn’t exceed 1/2″. Once it gets too thick light, fertilizer, water, etc. have a hard time getting through grass canopy and soil so you need to dethatch and pull it all out.

There is also another method that works better than dethaching called verticutting. This uses another rental machine called a vertical mower, verticutter, or vertislicer to create small cuts in the soil as the thatch buildup is removed in the process. Some even lay down grass seeds in the slices created to create thick football stadium type thick dense grass. This is usually overkilled for many residential lawns but if you have an older lawn with a thick thatch layer that is preventing fertilizer, water, and sunlight from penetrating correctly then you may need to do this.
